You Belong

There used to be such beauty
In the world around me
Now I’m lost in the sensation
Of impending doom

I close my eyes
Open my soul up wide
Breathe in deep

Time’s taken its toll on me
So weak and helpless
Cowering in fear
As smoke thick and dark
Rises and fills the air around me
Engulfed in bleak ebony
I cry out

A voice, husky and strong calls back
A strange word
You belong

My feet burn as I try to run
I feel safe in this darkness
My churning home
At one with this universe
Consuming other’s pain
To feed the hunger caused by the change

I swirl in madness
A crazy twist
And the smoke fades

The voices start again
And follow me on all the journeys of my life

I give in and surrender my soul
To feel safe in the darkness
The wench of nightfall
The steal-er of hopes and eater of dreams
Fate casts the stones

The vision of smoke’s deep hue has gone
But the strong voice remains to whisper
You belong.
