Tyler's Flight

You rocked within your cocoon
A caterpillar
With autumn sky eyes.

You came into this world
A butterfly
Wings too weak to fly.

Nurtured and loved
How much
You’ll never know.

With love
Your tiny wings
Began to grow.

Golden lashes
About your pale eyelids
Still flutter
As you sleep
And it’s pure beauty
Nothing compares.

You stand taller
Smarter
Stronger
Always brave
Ever eager
To test your budding wings.

You take your place
Among the clouds
And sun
And moon
And stars.
My heart thuds
You bat your little wings
And you fly.

Your autumn sky eyes shine
With sunshine hair
Porcelain skin
Bright as silver
Against the backdrop of life
You soar
And I have never seen
Such a magnificent sight.
