Tomorrow You're Three
Today you are two but tomorrow you'll be three
Another year passes so quickly by
My baby boy is growing up before my eyes
I'm stunned and saddened by how fast time moves
But oh, so amazingly proud of you
Today we danced in the shinning sun
I watched you run and play
Dodging whirlybirds and sprinkler spray
Occasionally dragging me, struggling, along
To laugh when I squealed as icy water shocked me
Then you return to your world of butterflies
Bubble clouds and dreams
A child's world that will always hold a part of me
Allowing me to see monkeys in the oak trees
And the land between childhood and reality
I hope you keep one tiny piece of childhood
I hope you never forget
The joy of the first hot summer day
Or the clean white canvas of snow
The laughter and games we've play
The magic of moonlight and starry skies
And the power of a mother's love her her child
Someday you won't drag me into sprinklers
Or ask me to make a hundred snowballs
You won't need my made-up stories to delight you
Or my comfort when you've been stung by pain
You won't turn to me for answers
You'll want to figure life out on your own
But in the end you come to learn
Your mother's arms are home
We have yesterdays and tomorrows still to come
And I'll fill each day with joy and love
I'll make memories of mud pies
And relish your delight
In the hidden gifts of nature
That can be found so close by
I'll give you the persistence of the ant
The strength of spider's web
The majesty of birds in flight
And a love more tenacious than ants
Stronger than a web in wind
And more beautiful than a sky of birds
I'll give you this and so much more
Today you are two but tomorrow you'll be three
How fast another year has slipped away from me
But that is the curse and joy of motherhood
To cradle your in son in love while teaching him to be a man
I'm so proud of your progress, you fill me with awe
You're smart and you're brave
You're polite and far too charming
Handsome, empathetic and kind
And I love you my son
With all that I am and all that I'll be
From the beginning of time through eternity.
For Big
Love Mama
