Silently

 

 

I watched you grow
Saw you change
From gangling girl to beauty queen
Becoming everything you always dreamed you’d be
I watched silently.

I helped you up when you fell
Dried your tears when you thought you'd failed
And I cheered when in the end you had prevailed.

I've watched you become everything
I always knew you’d be
I watched silently.

Times have changed, they always do
And maybe we don’t need each other as much as we used to
But I will always love you.

I watched you grow
I saw you change
Your horizon expand
Going to places I know I never can
See the tears
Now they’re mine
I’m so proud of you I can’t help but cry.

Please don’t forget
The simple one with simple plans
As you make your way to the better life and brighter days.

I always knew this day would come
When I’d wake up and you’d be gone
My childhood friend
Just a part of an old memory.

I close my eyes and see you there
Standing tall 
Even with the weight of the world
I know you won’t fall.

I watched you achieve all the dreams 
I always knew would be reality
I watched you silently.
