Only A Dream

This is all a dream
An innocent decent into smooth nothing
Gliding down paths of broken glass
Aren't you afraid your momentary happiness will fade
Holding onto warm bodies
Feeding from their guilt
Sucking black cauldron smoke
From their coal lungs like exhaust fumes
Powering children into fallen angels
With silver linings spewing from their golden hearts
Tears crystallizing on their pale, cherubic faces
As they too see
This is only a dream

Deeper into the burning pit
Being whipped by their own denial
As demons feast upon their mortal being
Strong hands bind
But they too are afraid
And fears turn to ashes when consumed
Voices scream forth from forgotten childhood woods
Running further
Running from eyes no one else see
But only getting closer to the truth
This is all a dream

The path is more painful now
Loneliness never cleansed
Aspirations dropped
Ended, afraid and so lost
Glimmers of hope rise
When stars fall like rain
And all I can do to ease the pain
Is scream your name

I am the voice in the forgotten wood
Where bridges stood but now they’re burned
And all that’s left for all eternity
Is the comfort that
This is all a dream.
