     Love Denied

The wind whispers in lullabies
A story of a women love denied
The dreams she had
And the joys she knew
Have long outlasted her smile

Her teardrops fell so hard in shame
To fill the rivers and the seas
And her anger set the earth to flame
For a love she hid behind desire
And the freedom she traded for dreams

Fast and fiercely the wind gusts
As she shudders in the cold
Chafing bone-thin hands
The dark work she faces, no one knows

She sees inside the chaos
To reveal the pattern
And broken shards are carefully pieced and glued
All the while, the wind, it blows
And clouds of darkness come and go

The wind whispers in lullabies
Faded facets of mistrust
Blood and blades
And truth lost in trust

In all her sorrow, her soul’s been denied
She will wallow in pity and hatred
Singing spurned lullabies
Carried to sympathetic ears
Until the storms pass her by
And the passage of the years
Fades the pain of love denied.
